New Housing Development Another Piece of East Side Redevelopment

The Park at Sutton Oaks will open in the spring of 2013 and is an energy leader among multi-family, mixed income developments.

Phase two of a $29.4 million mixed-income housing development will be constructed on the East Side off I-35 and Walters, near Woodard Park.

The money, coming from the City of San Antonio, the federal government's Department of Housing and Urban Development and the San Antonio Housing Authority, will build 208 units in total: 49 public housing units, 113 affordable units, and 46 market rate units.

Military and Bexar County Sheriff's Dept. Investigating Stolen Equipment

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations said it has arrested two people in a conspiracy to steal and resell military equipment.

The OSI doesn’t describe the stolen property, or which branch of Joint Base San Antonio the equipment came from, but Joint Base Spokesman Brent Boller said seven federal search warrants were executed at a San Antonio tattoo parlor Tuesday afternoon.

Artspace's 9th annual Chalk It Up Festival This Saturday, Oct. 13

On Saturday the grey streets and sidewalk of Houston St. will be replaced with art murals made with chalk. For nearly a decade, Artpace’s Chalk It Up festival has gathered artists to express their talent on a canvas that people normally literally walk all over. 

Artpace Deputy Director Mary Heathcott said that  holding a show like Chalk It Up allows for a much larger audience.

Protesters Voice A Variety of Messages Outside the DNC

In the shadows of the big bank buildings on College Street in Uptown Charlotte, protestors danced in the street, waved signs and played instruments.

Charlotte is known as "Wall Street South" because of its huge financial centers. Some of the hundreds of demonstrators want the money taken out of politics, some are against the war, and others want to preserve a woman’s right to choose.

This coalition, including 20-year-old Sebastian Feculak, believes elected leaders need to know what they think.
