Halfway between San Antonio and Laredo on I-35 is the town of Cotulla. In the middle of the harsh South Texas brush country, the county seat of La Salle County has been struggling for decades – but not these days.

Cotulla is a thriving. Big trucks are everywhere hauling miles of pile, gravel and fracking sand for oil rigs that have popped up to cash in on the Eagle Ford Shale oil and natural gas boom.

Fixing Problems: General Rice Meets With Service Women’s Action Network

Gen. Edward Rice leads the Air Education and Training Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph

In light of the sex scandal at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, General Edward Rice has met with the Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN) to find ways to better educate trainers and support women in the Air Force.

More than a dozen instructors have been convicted or are under investigation for sexual misconduct involving about 30 female trainees.

SWAN’s mission is to support, defend and empower women in the military, as well as female veterans, through advocacy and initiatives.

Wheatley Sports Complex Needs Teams to Use Facilities

The Wheatley Heights Sports Complex, which opened earlier this year, is ready for rentals by leagues and non-athletic events

The Wheatley Heights Sports Complex opened up on San Antonio's East Side at the beginning of the year. Bexar County, the city and the Eastside Christian Action Group partnered to offer a place where teams can come play ball.

“It’s a wonderful amateur sports facility right in the heart of the East Side that provides a wonderful place for recreation for our youth,” said District 2 Councilwoman Ivy Taylor.

San Antonio Fire Museum Society Gets Key to Future Site of Museum

Bob Heckman is with the Fire Museum Society and is the project manager for the renovation of the museum. He says the LaFrance pumper doesn’t have all of her original parts.

The headlights are from an old Ford Model A and the horn is a slightly modern adaptation as well, but it's history, and story of the San Antonio Fire Department is undeniable.

“We’re really anxious," said Heckman, who is now retired from firefighting. "We want to explain our history.”

You might not be aware that Texas has an official state railroad, but it does. And for sometime, people have wondered how long that will be the case. The Texas State Railroad, which runs between Palestine and Rusk in East Texas, has been through some hard times and was almost shut down. Now it appears the Texas State Railroad is on the right track.
