Though Gov. Rick Perry has been staunchly opposed to expanding Medicaid in line with the Affordable Care Act, some Republicans don't want to leave the money on the table.

Perry Meeting With Florida Governor Rick Scott At "Strategic Forum"

Perry and Florida Gov, Rick Scott could discuss Medicaid expansion, a possibility that some people think is encouraging for eventual expansion in Texas.

Gov. Rick Perry is visiting West Palm Beach today to take part in roundtable discussion with Florida Gov. Rick Scott at what is being called the Palm Beach Strategic Forum.

Perry's office indicated that he is in the state to discuss his ideas about economic development, but the topic of Medicaid expansion is certainly a possibility.

Texas Republican Stance On Medicaid Expansion Seems To Be Shifting

Texas Democrats, led by U.S. Congressman Joaquín Castro at the podium and his brother Julián, held a press conference Monday to talk about Medicaid expansion.

The Obama Administration gave states the option of either implementing a Health Exchange system or signing on for Medicaid expansion. Up until now Republicans have been against both plans, but Rep. John Zerwas, R-Simonton, has indicated that health exchanges may be the right choice for Texas.

"This allows us to comfortably draw down the money from the federal government attributed to providing healthcare to the group of people who are the 130 percents," Zerwas said.

The Battle Over Expanding Medicaid In Texas

Texas Republicans are now trying to find a way to get federal money without going "all in" with Obamacare.

There’s a mounting effort at the Capitol in Austin to try to find a way to do something about Medicaid, the joint state and federal health program for children, the disabled and the very low income.

Early in the week there were rumors that the House GOP caucus was going to vote in favor of expanding Medicaid in line with the Affordable Care Act.
