First Presbyterian Church Honors The Best Of Bess

San Antonio's First Presbyterian Church is known for its expansive music programs. Now, an event is set to honor former member Bess Hieronymus, who was also known as an accomplished music teacher and organ virtuoso.

"She had an international reputation," said John Silantien, director of choral activities at UTSA. "She would bring organ virtuosos down here and they would play duets together on the organ at UTSA."

Final Fiesta Event Is Classical Concert At St. Mark's Episcopal

Music from St. Mark’s presents their annual Fiesta celebration this Sunday at 4 p.m. It showcases the music of Francis Poulenc, including the "Concerto for Organ in G minor" and his grand choral symphony "Gloria."

Members of the San Antonio Symphony will augment musicians of the St. Mark’s Choir and featured soloist Joseph Causby.

Causby is the music director and conductor at St. Marks. He chuckles at the question: Is being a soloist and then conductor like juggling?

Record Number Of Pipe Organists In 42nd Hall Pipe Organ Competition

The William C. Hall Pipe Organ Competition turns 42

Saturday, March 2, undergraduate and graduate organists will compete for the 42nd annual Hall Pipe Organ Competition in San Antonio. This year there are a record number of entrants, something unusual for the competition, since sometimes they are unsure of whether or not they will get the minimum of five competitors!
