There’s a mini-mural sale that’s coming up quite soon. The San Anto Cultural Arts Mini-Mural auction was originally scheduled for tonight, but something got in the way.

"The Spurs won the national championship," said Harvey Mireles, executive director the San Anto Cultural Arts Center, about the reason for the postponement.

"We, of course, like the rest of San Antonio, root for our Spurs and love them dearly," he said.

Chupachanga 2: The Artful West Side Party

Chupachanga is a West Side block party. And here's why it’s more than just a block party: Art will be a byproduct of the party.

“This event is actually centered around large-scale print-making," said Samantha Lopez, the program coordinator a San Anto Cultural Arts.

“The way it works is that the artist carves into the woodblocks,” she said.

Those woodblocks get some ink and a big roller and voila! Three 3 ft. by 4 ft. prints are the result.

"Two of those prints will be sold," Lopez explained. "And then the last print goes to the artist."

San Anto Putting On A "Chupachanga" Block Party (With Metal Foundry)

San Antonians will soon come together to create something unusual. The event where that something will be created is called the Chupachanga.

"Chupachanga is a term that we coined for our block party," said San Anto Cultural Arts Program Coordinator Samantha Lopez, who explained how the name makes perfect sense.

"It’s on Chupaderas Street, and it’s a play on the word Chupaderas and pachanga," she said.

Pachanga is a Spanish word for a style of festive music and dance.

San Anto Cultural Arts Unveils Government Hill Mural

San Antonio is a city full of murals, but the new one in the Government Hill neighborhood represents something more. San Anto Cultural Arts Center’s Public Art Program Manager John Medina explains how it came about.

"Earlier in the year we were contacted by City Center Health Careers and they wanted us to team up with them to paint the mural and teach it as part of their curriculum," Medina said. "Previous to this they didn’t have an art class."

So what does a mural and art have to do with City Center Heath Careers Charter School?"

San Anto's West Side Mural Bike Tour Rolls October 12

The San Anto Cultural Arts Center is encouraging San Antonians to get out of their cars and onto their bikes for a ride of discovery. Public Art Program Manager John Medina wants you to show up at San Anto with your bike, your energy, and a little curiosity. If you do, he’ll take you on a tour of significant West Side murals.
