This week local youth can audition for the 2013-14 season of the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio. Musicians who have been playing their instrument at least one year, and are ages 8 to 20 years old are eligible.

Troy Peters is the music director and conductor of the YOSA Philharmonic. He says it is a great experience, and fun. "This year guests include Christopher O'Riley, host of From The Top, plus Tracy Silverman, electric violinist, and our first performance in Lila Cockrell Theater."

Saturday night Radius becomes much more than offices and a restaurant; the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio will transform the space to an orchestral club. "And the idea is that we just show up with an orchestra in various places, and we've memorized a song, we've worked out an arrangement together, and we sing and play songs that people aren't used to orchestral musicians perform," says Music Director Troy Peters.

Richard Stoltzman is a legendary musician, winning Grammy Awards, playing chamber music, new music and concerti around the world. He's also famous for his jazz, playing with greats like Woody Herman, Mel Torme, and Chick Corea. This weekend, Stoltzman will share his artistry with the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio Philharmonic.

The new CD "Triple Doubles" presents three recent double concertos - works composed for violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson. Performed by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, these performances have a remarkably personal quality, undoubtedly a result of the performers' close relationship with the composers and the unique bond of a husband and wife interacting with "their" orchestra.

Troy Peters, who conducts Daron Hagen’s Masquerade, spoke with John Clare about this release.
