It's literally why he was asked to return: Chopin's Polonaise Brilliant. "They remembered me playing it the last time I was at the Tuesday Music Club, and asked for us to play it again!" Chopin rounds out a romantic program for Cellist Darrett Adkins, who is no stranger to Alamo city. "I came here for the first concert of conductor Troy Peters - we grew up in the same home town. I even played solos with his high school orchestra back in Washington." Adkins also has played with the Zephyr Trio, who were guests of the Tuesday Music Club not long ago. 

This program is filled with romantic selections like Brahms and Chopin, a little more conservative than the music Adkins is known for, which usually mixes new music with a Bach cello suite.

Tuesday, January 22, Joyce Yang will return to San Antonio for a piano recital. She has played with the San Antonio Symphony, collaborated with violinist Augustin Haedlich, but this time will be solo at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church. Her program has music by Beethoven, Chopin, Bartok, and Rachmaninoff.

"The Second Sonata is a great example of that passion on the verge of hysteria. It is unusual Rachmaninoff in many ways - it was edited several times, and can seem schizophrenic!"

Paul Jacobs is one of the leading organists of his time, and is passing along that knowledge and skill to the next generation at the Juilliard School. Known for his stunning new music performances, Jacobs is equally mesmerizing in the "standards."

San Antonio audiences can hear Paul play Bach, Mozart, and "a pair of ladies, from France - Nadia Boulanger, known for her teaching generations of composers, in a work for organ." Jacobs also says he is looking forward to spending time in San Antonio.
