WHAT: A captivating large-scale immersive art experience, Otherwild, will transform the San Antonio Botanical Garden this spring into a vibrant world where wonder takes root and the sky comes alive.

Debuting Saturday, March 7, the exhibition features colorful visionary installations by artist Patrick Shearn and his internationally renowned studio, Poetic Kinetics, which is recognized for large-scale public art that inspires awe, movement, and creative exploration.

Otherwild invites visitors to step into a whimsical, nature-inspired environment where art and landscape merge. The installation will unfold into two distinct parts:

● Flora Borealis - a custom Skynet installation of ultra-lightweight, kinetic elements that float with the breeze, contrasting the SABG’s natural landscape

● Enchanted Trees - a sculptural grove of ten imaginary species, each with its own personality, crafted from reflective, movement-responsive materials that interact with sunlight and wind.

This special program highlights the often-overlooked role Spanish Texans played in supporting the American Revolution. Through donativos (donations), they contributed silver pesos, thousands of head of cattle, and other essential supplies to aid the colonial cause. The speakers will discuss the role of American Indians in the missions who raised and gathered cattle for long drives escorted by presidio soldiers, along with the funds collected under the royal decree of Spanish King Carlos III. Discover how these united efforts from across Spanish Texas helped advance the fight for American independence.

Kristina Salinas presents a visual exploration of the space-both real and symbolic-between herself and her Mexican roots. Tracing her paternal lineage, Salinas journeys from San Antonio through Laredo to her ancestral home in Candela, Coahuila, collecting images that reflect her cultural identity.

The exhibition title plays on "cognitive dissonance," highlighting the tension between her life as a contemporary artist and the traditions of her family. Through this work, Salinas invites viewers to consider what is lost and gained across generations, honoring the risks and complexities of immigrant heritage.

Come one come all to a hands on weekly tea brewing class. Learn the simple steps to brewing a perfect, organic, all natural cup of hot or glass of iced tea any time. Do it at home, at work, on the road, literally anywhere you can get hot water (or cold water for cold brewed teas).

We will take all the mystery and angst out of tea brewing and explore the many health benefits of loose leaf and herbal teas. Find the one that is right for you with over 100 flavors and endless flavor combinations.

New York City–based Ballet Nepantla presents VALENTINA, which showcases the powerful and untold stories of women during Revolutionary Mexico through the exemplary art of dance choreography. Founded by South Texas native Andrea Guajardo and Guadalajara-born Martin Rodriguez, the company masterfully blends ballet folklórico, classical ballet, and contemporary dance, creating an exquisite fusion of these three styles.

This unforgettable performance takes the audiences on an emotional journey that resonates deeply with those on both sides of the border. In celebration of Women’s History Month, Ballet Nepantla returns to San Antonio by popular demand through a collaborative initiative between UT San Antonio COLFA, the Consulado de México in San Antonio, Westside Sol Newspaper, KEDA Radio, and MPR—producers of the 32nd Mariachi Extravaganza.

The Texas Mental Health Creative Arts Contest 2026 invites Texans of all ages to reflect on their mental health and share what it means to them through creative expression.

Hosted by the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health, this statewide contest is open to all Texas residents—from elementary students to adults. Participants are invited to respond to the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” through traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing.

Mental health is shaped by personal experiences, culture, and community. By encouraging creative reflection, the contest creates space for people to tell their stories, explore emotional well-being, and contribute to broader conversations about mental health across Texas. Submissions may address topics such as stress, healing, resilience, relationships, or everyday moments that influence mental well-being.

Selected works may be featured in virtual and in-person galleries, offering opportunities for learning, connection, and public dialogue.

Eligibility: Open to all Texas residents, youth and adults
