Carlos Uresti served 21 years in the Texas Legislature.

Former Democratic State Senator Carlos Uresti of San Antonio was sentenced to five years in prison for a federal bribery case involving Reeves County. He plead guilty in the case last October.

On Tuesday, Judge David Ezra in San Antonio gave Uresti one week to surrender to U.S. Marshals to begin his sentence.

Last year, Uresti was sentenced to 12 years in prison for 11 charges, including money laundering and wire fraud for his involvement in Four Winds Logistics, a fracking sand company that federal prosecutors called a ponzi scheme.

Ezra ordered that Uresti serve his two sentences concurrently, or simultaneously. He will serve three years' probation when he's released.

Uresti was ordered to pay $876,000 in restitution in the Reeves County case, which involved bribery to secure a medical services contract from the county's correctional center. He also owes over $6 million in restitution for the Four Winds case.

Uresti served 21 years in the Texas Legislature representing parts of San Antonio, Bexar County and 16 other counties in South Texas along the border.
