Children's Chorus Gives Last Taste Of Fiesta

CCSA
Children's Chorus of San Antonio

Fiesta is officially over but the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio has one last touch of Fiesta for you.  The performance is called "Fiesta In Song." I spoke to Executive Director Anne Schelleng.

"We’ve got a great concert coming up on Sunday, May 3rd at 3PM at the H-E-B Performance Hall at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts" she said. "Kids will be singing tunes from Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Argentina—we’ve got even an Argentinian Tango, some South American, and even a little funk salsa mixed in with some great Gospel and American tunes.”

And it’s not all just vocal music—there’s an ensemble playing with the chorus.

"We will be joined by some musicians from around town, some percussion certainly. Even some guitar and harpsichord for some."

She told me that it's not just one group--they have separate choruses.

“We have singers who are in junior jigh and high school, who comprise our advanced ensemble. They come from forty or fifty zip codes around town and we have four training ensembles in various parts of the city.”

“And how many kids, all told, sing with you?” I asked.

“We’ll probably have about a hundred and sixty on the stage, a hundred and eighty on the stage.   This concert is also special in that we get to honor our singers who have been with us for a number of years, as we say goodbye to our graduating seniors.  And we’ve watched them grow from their first steps in the program, to accomplished musicians and individuals ready to take on the world. This concert is a great opportunity for families to come out and hear the Children’s Chorus and get a taste of what it’s like for their young artist to be a part of our program.”
