Enjoy Holiday Pops With A Dash Of Mariachi Style

Liz Garza Williams
Akiko Fujimoto

They will be packing the Tobin this weekend for one of the Alamo City’s standout holiday events. It's the San Antonio Symphony’s Holiday Pops Concert.

“It’s going to be a big weekend.”

Associate Conductor Akiko Fujimoto details the event.

“We have a few very special guest artists. The Children’s Chorus of San Antonio will be joining us for many of the pieces. We also have music from Germany and Venezuela and Spain and Trinidad, and a lot of traditional British carols are represented, too. The teenage mariachi sensation, Sebastian De La Cruz, will be singing a few Christmas carols in Spanish.”

[Sebastian De La Cruz] “The songs that I’m going to be singing — they’re a little bit more on the different-cultured side. They’re more [like] lullabies.”

Sounds like a real multi-cultural holiday event.

[De La Cruz] “It’s going to be very fun; you’re going to see a lot of different types of music.”

[Fujimoto] “The concert’s on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m and Sunday at 3 p.m.”

People who haven’t quite found their holiday spirit are going to find it at this concert.

[Fujimoto] “Of course, of course. We’ll get you in the mood for the holidays for sure by the end of it.”
