Legislation that would make it legal to openly carry a handgun in Texas might not happen in this session.
Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said in an interview Tuesday with Evan Smith of the Texas Tribune that ‘Open Carry’ was not a priority and it didn’t have the votes. “The votes had not been there, as of today. I haven’t had anybody bring it up to me,” Patrick said.
He added that for the moment, ‘Open Carry’ didn’t “reach the level” of priority it required to be at for action on it, in the Republican-dominated Senate.
Lawmakers have filed several bills on ‘Open Carry,’ ranging from requiring a license, to letting anyone carry a handgun in public.
