The San Antonio City Council has unanimously approved authorizing $9 million in conjunction with $9 million in funds from Bexar County for the purchase of Toyota Field.
“This has been a goal of this community for some years now to attract Major League Soccer, to promote soccer. So I’m very pleased we’re at this point in the process, which I think is a critical turning point,” said Mayor Ivy Taylor.
“This is a special day for San Antonio,” said Councilman Mike Gallagher. “I deeply appreciate the help of Gordon Hartman, Bexar County, Spurs Sports and Entertainment, and my fellow Council members for their efforts in securing the purchase of Toyota Field.”
Bexar County Commissioners Court is expected to approve its share of the funding on December 21.
