San Antonio ISD Names Finalist For Superintendent Position

SAISD

San Antonio Independent School District has named Manuel Isquierdo, who is currently the superintendent of Sunnyside Unified School District in Tuscon, Ariz., as the finalist for the superintendent position.

It’s been more than a year, but trustees finally made the decision at a special board meeting on Monday night. Isquierdo was the only one of three candidates called back for a second interview.

According to state law the district must wait 21 days before he can be officially hired. SAISD Spokeswoman Leslie Price said during that time district will hold public meetings for parents and students to meet the man who is in line to run the school system.

"They want a lot of public involvement," Price said. "That means meetings where parents, residents, employees, different people who are interested, the business community, will have an opportunity to meet this finalist and give feedback."

Those meeting dates haven’t been setup yet.

SAISD has been looking for a new superintendent since last February, when Robert Duron announced he was planning to resign. More than 85 applicants submitted their name for the position in the nationwide job search.

In the interim, Sylvester Perez, formerly of Midland ISD, has been serving as the head of the district.
