San Antonio's Bioscience-Medicine Industry Could Help Solve City's Top Health Problems

Jan 10, 2018

The healthcare and bioscience sector is one of San Antonio's leading industries. In 2015, the industry had a $37 billion impact on the San Antonio economy and employed more than 1 out of 6 people with jobs in the city.

The local nonprofit BioMed SA has proposed an industry action plan to target specific health and wellness pain points that are particularly prevalent in San Antonio, including diabetes and cancer, as well as neurological and infectious diseases.

The two-part plan is also looking to address the treatment of trauma, wound healing and other regenerative medicines.

Working to leverage the city's biomedical assets, like locally-based research and hospitals, the plan aims to fuel economic growth and harness San Antonio's strengths to become a global healthcare resource.

What is the impact of healthcare and bioscience on San Antonio's economy? How can the industry collaborate to tackle the city's biggest health issues?
