From Bill Shakespeare to Native Plants to Prairie Home Compañero--the weekend is full of interesting things to do. Here's your preview. First, a production called The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged.
"It's all 37 plays in 97 minutes by only three actors."
Damian Gillen is one of those actors and he's with The Company Theatre.
"Friday night we're doing a dinner theater at Little Italy, but our big event every year is when we take over the Arneson Theater on the River Walk."
That means Shakespeare will be accented by occasional river barges.
"A lot of times we'll break character and walk to the edge of the stage and pose. Sometimes we don't say anything at all; we'll just stand there and stare at the boat. It's pretty hysterical," he laughed.
Then on Saturday, get up and head to Boerne for the Mostly Native Plant Sale. Your head may be filled with questions about native plants.
"What kind of plants grow where? Which ones need shade? Which ones need sun?"
The Cibolo Nature Center and Farm's Cheyenne Johnson says the vendors selling native plants there have the answers.
"Lots of vendors, lots of native plants. Easy to get to."
You may be aware of the Monarch Butterfly's diminished numbers and how milk weed is an important food source for them.
"And milk weeds are a hard plant to find!"
But you can find them at the Mostly Native Plant sale at the Kendall County Fairgrounds 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Then on Saturday night...
"Welcome everyone to the Lalo Cavazos Show on Radio Aztlan!"
Eduardo Cavazos Garza is talking about a fake radio show performed live before you at Urban 15 on Saturday night.
"We have live musical guests."
The more he talked about what they're doing the more it sounded familiar. Almost like something else you'd hear on NPR. He agreed.
"Right. It's along the lines of Prairie Home Companion only we're Chicanos."
"Prairie Home Compañero?" He laughed out loud.
"Ha! Prairie Home Compañero!"
Right after the Radio Aztlan performance they'll be doing Jazz Poetry with a live band. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
