Texas Public Radio's 7th annual Silver Solutions is a free community event spotlighting programs and services provided by institutions that support San Antonio seniors and their caregivers. This year's event will take place on Thursday, May 25 from 10am-3pm at TriPoint, 3233 N. St. Mary's at Hwy 281 South.
Silver Solutions is a resource fair that helps seniors gather information pertaining to their health, their living resources, their faculties, their passions and their independence. As members of our associated organizations, as children of seniors, we want to help elders in our community age in place and live life to its fullest! Also, those of us who are working with our family members to help them research their options are seeing the need to put a plan together for ourselves.
Silver Solutions will spotlight programs and services provided by institutions supporting seniors and caregivers in San Antonio. It will also serve as the conduit for private consultations with a variety of experts on topics related to aging, caring for elders and elder health. In addition, senior-friendly pets will be available for adoption and education sessions will be offered. Learn from Dr. Venkat Srinivasan, author of Principles of Mind-Body Medicine as he discusses the importance of forgiveness and the impact it has on one’s health. Michael J. Wargovich, Ph.D., F.A.C.N. from the CTRC and UT Health, along with Executive Chef Iverson Brownell, will speak on the cuisine alternative for fighting chronic inflammation and how to cook and eat for disease prevention. Paul Zambie, Managing Attorney, Transfer on Death Deed Project at the Texas Legal Services Center will discuss a new legal tool in Texas which serves to transfer ownership of real property to designated beneficiaries as a “payable on death” instrument. And if you’re a caregiver and are barely hanging on, you won’t want to miss Caregiver Specialist Tina Smith’s session, called At the End of My Rope: Caregiver Burnout. Learn the difference between stress and burnout, in addition to the causes, outcomes, and warning signs of burnout. Prevention strategies will be discussed. Donna Teall, AACOG’s lead Veteran and mobility coordinator will offer a guide to Mobility Resources for getting around Bexar County, and if you’re concerned about Atrial fibrillation (AFib) and increased risk for stroke, the American Heart Association’s program associate, Sarah Mohmedali, will discuss this in her session, Faces of AFib. All this and much more will be available!
Silver Solutions takes place Thursday, May 25, from 10am-3pm at TriPoint, located at 3233 N. St. Mary's St. Education sessions begin at 10:15am and end at 2:30pm. Both the event and convenient parking are free.
