The Source: CPS Energy Wants To Rent Your Roof

San Antonio is known for its big inroads into solar power. Boasting 128 MW of commercial solar power currently online and the biggest solar project of any municipal power provider coming online--their 400 MW OCI solar collaboration--CPS Energy says and appeasr to be fully invested in solar power.

The company is piloting a new program that will expand their solar portfolio onto roofs across San Antonio. They want to rent roofs across San Antonio, expand solar power, and credit homeowners accounts for the privilege of hosting CPS-owned rooftop arrays.

CPS has had a popular solar incentive program for years. It made it possible for homeowners in the city to install photo-voltaic solar arrays at a nominal cost. The criticism of the program was the high cost of the initial investment made the rebate program out of reach for many citizens. Now the energy company says the benefits of solar can be extended to those that can't afford to invest in their own system.

Is this a good deal for homeowners?
