The Source: Heavy Rains Cause High Number Of Sewage Spills

Under your feet in San Antonio there is a 5200 miles system of pipes and pumps moving our sewage. But like many water and waste water systems across the nation, much of it has reached the end of it's useful life and needs a major upgrade.

  How do we know this?

Remember those rains we had in May and June - all that storm water runoff overwhelmed  SAWS' sewer system. We have had more spills than any time since 2007.

What's being done about it - and what risk do these spills pose for our drinking water?

  • Annalisa Peace, executive director of the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance
  • Steve Clouse, Chief Operating Officer for the San Antonio Water System
