Monday Mayor Ivy Taylor responded to questions about the future of Lone Star Rail, the proposed commuter-rail line connecting San Antonio and Austin.
Despite having more support than ever a major blow was dealt last month when Union Pacific Railroad - the owner of the tracks the line hopes to ride on - pulled out of the deal. Bexar County subsequently pulled $500,000 it had set aside for the project.
Mayor Taylor says she is hoping alternatives can be found to a UP-based line, and the situation is precarious.
"I can't say 100 percent that it's dead, but it certainly looks blear right now."
The dream of such a line has been talked about for a generation. The benefits of removing cars from Interstate 35, paired with intrinsic positive of efficiently connecting two of the fastest growing cities in the country gained a lot of support.
