The Source: As Religious Influence Wanes, Concern Rises

Paul Flahive, Texas Public Radio

The influence of religion in public life has declined say respondents of a recent Pew poll. More than half surveyed were concerned by their perception of the waning influence of religion on policy and the public, wanting more.

The hunger for more religion in public is not a new phenomena especially here in Texas where debates over abortion still rage and controversies erupted over proposed rewrites of state social studies textbooks after the roll of religion was played up.

In another surveyconducted by the Public Religion Research Institute released yesterday 46 percent worried the government interfering with the practice of their religion while another 46 percent were worried that religious groups would pass laws to force their beliefs on others.

Where is America regarding religion in public life?
