The Source: Spanish Artist Joan Miro Exhibit At The McNay

McNay Museum of Art http://bit.ly/1RgqHtN

Bright colors and whimsical geometric shapes are undeniable characteristics of Joan Miro's art. As a famous painter and sculpture, Miro is an important part of Spanish art history. Though one might notice his color palettes first, Miro is especially famous for his tendency to break tradition.

A new exhibit at the McNay Art Museum highlights this unique artist and pieces from his later period. While abstract art may have a reputation for being cold, Miro's pieces are warm and engaging. He played with traditional pictorial space and was largely inspired by nature, often simplifying forms of driftwood and birds.

The McNay's show is the final opportunity for Texans to see Miro's work. San Antonio is the only city in the southwest to be involved in the tour and this exhibit marks the pieces' final stop before returning to Spain.

The exhibit will be available from September 30-January 10, 2016. The McNay will also be hosting several events based on the exhibit, which can be found on their Events page
