With U.S. intervention in Syria looming, what do we know about the country and its current regime? 

Trinity University Professor David Lesch, who is the author of "Syria: The Fall of the House of Assad," joins us to talk about  his recent travels to Syria, his experience with Bashar al Assad, and the future of a beleaguered state.

LoneStarCon is the 71st world science fiction convention (Worldcon) and it takes place this weekend here in San Antonio. It is the site of highly sought after awarding of the Hugo for best science fiction.  

LoneStarCon organizer Randall Shepherd joins us to talk about the explosion of science fiction in both literature and mainstream. Science fiction icon Kim Stanley Robinson, author of the popular "Mars Trilogy" and most recently "Shaman," reviewed by NPR books this morninghere, also joins us on the importance of the conference and science fiction.  

Finally, we find out why a group of science fiction authors and artists are on a bus in the middle of Texas heading for the birthplace of "Conan the Barbarian."
