After the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that states have to issue licenses for and recognize same-sex marriages, the response from across Texas has been diverse.
Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a non-binding legal opinion stating that County clerks across the state were protected by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and that theydid not have to give marriage licenses to couples if it violated their religious beliefs.
In addition, some legislators are calling for a special session to address the issue. Many in the Christian community will be actively working to reverse the ruling, even here in San Antonio.
Here in San Antonio, amega-weddingis being planned at Unity Church of San Antonio to celebrate the ruling allowing same-sex marriages. Their "Freedom to Say I Do" celebration will see several same-sex couples wed, have 40 volunteers on hand to assist with the many weddings, and all take place on July 4th.
