David Martin Davies

Border Patrol detention facility in the Rio Grande Valley. It was designed to hold 400 people but was holding over a thousand children at time of photograph.

Today President Obama asked for $3.7 billion to deal with large numbers of immigrants entering the country at our southern border. Tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors and more than a 100,000 adults have crossed our southern border so far this year, already exceeding last years number with months to go.

Two congressmen, two parties, two very different opinions on how to stop or at least improve the crisis on the border.

The first from Congressman Randy Weber, R-Friendswood, who wants to stop aid to Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala until they can stop people from coming to the US.

The second from Congressman Joaquín Castro, D-San Antonio, who advocates for comprehensive immigration reform and more funding for these countries so they can stem the violence that many point to as the genesis of the problem.

Both congressmen sit on the House Foreign Affairs committee.

Guests:

  • Congressman Randy Weber
  • Congressman Joaquín Castro
