San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor has a little more than a week left in office. The one term mayor was unseated by District 8 Councilman Ron Nirenberg on Saturday. Taylor says she has left her mark on the city.
“Well, it looks like the majority of the votes have come in. it doesn’t look like its going the way we anticipated this evening, but you know what, I am so grateful to God.”
Mayor Taylor ended election night with a sense of pride. She addressed about 200 supporters at Sunset Station.
“I’m not a politician, I’m a planner. I am still committed to doing the community development work I’ve been doing. The city is on an amazing trajectory.
She quoted bible verses in her speech and listed accomplishments like negotiating the police contract, getting the bond approved, and helping homeless veterans find housing. Kaylee Pretty, one of Taylor’s supporters says Taylor will hold a place in the city’s history.
“As far as being the first being the first African-American and the second female as mayor of such a beautiful city.”
Taylor ended election night with 45 percent of the vote. She received 44,919 votes to Nirenberg's 54,010.
On election night Taylor never called Mayor-elect Nirenberg to concede nor did she congratulate him. She urged citizens to support the new council which will have six new members.
