U.S. Senators From Texas Want To Begin Dismantling Obamacare Immediately

Texas senators Cornyn and Cruz plan on taking apart President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, piece by piece, following the Republican Senate takeover.

It should come as no surprise that the Texas Republican who filibustered an Obamacare funding bill for over 20 hours, is the one vowing to put an end to the president’s signature legislation and kill other legislative efforts by Democrats in the U.S. senate.

Here’s what US Senator Ted Cruz said during the  Republican victory party in downtown Austin.

“Now is the time to do everything humanly possible to repeal Obamacare. Now is the time to stand up to the president and say, no more amnesty,” thundered Cruz, to a raucous crowd.

Cruz urged senate Republicans to no longer be divided and come together and stand unified on these issues. His senior fellow, Texas U.S. Senator John Cornyn, said their majority win allowed Republicans to set the agenda for the senate.

“Oh, I think Obamacare has been a disaster. President Obama will continue to be in office for two more years, but I’m for dismantling it piece by piece until we get there. I still think there is litigation in the courts which may cause it to collapse under its own weight,” said Cornyn.

But dismantling Obamacare isn’t as much of a priority for Cornyn as it is for Cruz. Cornyn felt there was a greater need to reform the country’s immigration system and pass a budget, which, as he pointed out, the Senate hadn’t done since 2009.  As far as Texas is concerned, Cornyn urged state Republicans to not get too caught up in this week’s win. He said he still saw groups like Battleground Texas as a viable threat, especially when it came to the 2016 presidential race.
