Where The Song Comes From You, And The Spirit From Within

It’s getting to be the time of year where holiday music performances pop up around town. I found one event a particularly interesting one. At the heart of it is the Messiah, but there’s something different going on here.

“This is not your typical performance because the performers are actually seated out in the audience. You will be the performers.”

That is the San Antonio Choral Society’s Jennifer Seighman. The audience members are invited to bring just their voices, and not their instruments.

“Correct. We have our own orchestra this time around. We’re just looking for a lot of singers to fill up that space at the Empire and to really get everyone in the holiday spirit.”

It happens at the Charline McCombs Empire Theater downtown.

“The Messiah Sing is going to be the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It’ll be at 7p.m. That Friday, they’re lighting the tree in front of the Alamo. They have the River Parade that Friday, so, we hope that they’ll come back downtown on Saturday to help us light up the Empire Theater as well with the holiday spirit.”

Hundreds of voices will ring out together.

“It’s just going to be a blast to have the audience members participating in that way.

We’ve more on the concert here.
