YOSA, Local Musicians To Come Together For Beatles Tribute Concert

Youth Orchestras of San Antonio is planning another interesting concert. It's a Beatles concert of sorts, and YOSA's Troy Peters described the iconic band this way.

"They connect the dots on a whole bunch of different sounds. And it means that a whole bunch of different kinds of listeners can come to the Beatles and find something to hold onto," Peters says.

And now YOSA's philharmonic orchestra is coming together with local musicians for this special Beatles-centered event.

"March 14th we're going to be doing the Beatles' Abbey Road. A dozen San Antonio bands, a full symphony orchestra," he said. "It's going to be a one-of-a-kind evening, with the power and majesty of all these musicians onstage. Some re-interpreting going on and some familiar favorites that sound exactly like you remember them."

The move isn't an unprecedented one. YOSA re-created Radiohead's OK Computer  album in June, and right afterwards asked themselves what album should be next?

"Where are there rich textures that would really reward that exploration? And once you start thinking that way the Beatles are the first place you go."

They settled on doing the Abbey Road album. You may wonder if YOSA's young musicians could relate to the Beatles. Peters said not to worry.

"These high school students are already in love with the Beatles, or in many cases falling in love with the Beatles."

He says once the project was on, they started downloading Abbey Road.

"And have been coming in and going, 'Oh my gosh, this is so cool. I had no idea!'"

Tickets for the March performance at the Tobin Center go on sale Nov. 20.
