Children's Shelter Vigil Honors 19 Local Fatalities Of Child Abuse In 2012

The Children’s Shelter and VOICES for Children of San Antonio are asking residents to participate in an event Tuesday evening to raise awareness of the problem of child abuse.

The two groups are hosting a "Remember 19" candlelight vigil Tuesday evening to make sure the 19 children who died violent deaths last year are not forgotten.

Children's Shelter Renamed To Honor Glenda Woods

The San Antonio Children’s Shelter is memorializing former leader Glenda Woods by renaming its campus in her honor.

At a dedication ceremony next week, the new Glenda Woods Campus for Children and Families will honor the service and leadership of the board member who molded the shelter into a multi-service facility.

The agency today operates as a shelter for abused or homeless children, and also offers education for teen fathers, prenatal care to teen mothers, and therapeutic services to abused children.

Children's Shelter Receives Abundance Of Community Support For Holiday

Residents at the San Antonio Children’s Shelter will be treated to a special Christmas “just like home” this year. Community organizations brought in truckloads of toys and volunteered their time for the kids.

The San Antonio Children’s Shelter usually has upwards of 50 children staying at the center, who usually come from homes in crisis. CEO Annette Rodriguez said the holidays are a sad time of the year for many of the kids.
