Toy Safety Report Warns Against Magnets And Very Loud Toys That Could Hurt Children

This year’s survey of the most dangerous toys has turned up new hazards that are not always sold as toys. Magnets and watch batteries are causing concern among physicians in hospital emergency rooms.

The Trouble in Toyland report by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group comes out just in time for the holiday shopping season each year, and commonly includes cautions about choking and strangulation hazards.

Paseo Del Rio Getting Ready For Annual Christmas River Parade

Paseo del Rio officials are checking their lists for decorations and lighting on 26 river barges that have to be ready by Friday for the big holiday river parade.    

Decorators in the Paseo marina below downtown San Antonio are working to string lights, build stages, and cover woodwork and electrical cords with layers of cotton that will make the barges look like they went through snow.

Last week the City of Houston adopted a strict ordinance that will disqualify businesses found guilty of criminal wage theft from city contracts or from operating in the city.  Officials have said criminal convictions rare in these instances, but the city contends it makes a powerful statement.

Starting A New Business Overnight--Literally

Forty people in downtown San Antonio are camping out at Geekdom this weekend in an exercise called "3DS," or three day start-up.

Starting Friday and running through Sunday night, members are broken up into teams and assigned to come up with ideas for a business.

Cristal Glangchai runs 3DS San Antonio, and is also the creator of the entrepreneurship academy Venture Lab. The 3DS concept originally began in Austin but came to the Alamo City in 2010.

Coming Soon: Where Kids Can Play Downtown

Construction for the Playscape at Hemisfair Park is expected to begin in May 2014.

The city's Historic and Design Review Commission has passed the schematic design for the Playscape slated for Hemisfair Park.

The Playscape is the first phase of the overall redevelopment for the park, and will be located at the southwest corner of Cesar Chavez and S. Alamo. Wednesday, the commission reviewed and passed the design, and citizens got the chance to view the plans during a public event at the Magik Theater.
