Local Economists Say San Antonio Has Bounced Back From Recession

The increase in housing development, like the one at the former Birdsong Peanut Factory on the West Side is helping San Antonio continue to recover economically.

San Antonio economists told members of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce that San Antonio recovered from the recession faster because it didn’t suffer as great an impact as the rest of the nation, or even Texas.

Keith Phillips with the local branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, said metropolitan statistical area's in Texas have recovered all of the jobs lost in the recession, and San Antonio suffered the least:

San Antonio And Texas Lead Nation In Construction Job Growth

The Associated General Contractors of America reports that Texas leads the nation in the increase of construction jobs.

It's a sign of an economic comeback for the state, and one local construction executive believes San Antonio’s commercial building industry is outpacing the rest of the state.

Scooter Store Employees Looking For Answers About Unemployment Benefits

Scooter Store employees have plenty of questions about their furloughs late last week.

Scooter Store CEO Marty Landon reportedly sent out a blanket email at the end of the day last Friday that told all employees not to come back to work unless they received further instructions.

Employees were left dazed and confused, entering their spring break not knowing where their next paycheck would come from.

The Face Of The Eagle Ford Shale In San Antonio

STEER President Omar Garcia was previously employed by the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation before joining the South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable

San Antonio is now the hub for providing resources to the Eagle Ford Shale Project. The South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable opened its doors at the Pearl Brewery this week.

It’s been in existence for about five months, created by the 11 major oil and gas operators working on the shale project including Conoco Phillips and Lewis Energy.
