Elections 2018: Who Came Out On Top After The Primaries?

Ryan Poppe

The March 6 Texas primaries brought voters out to the polls to decide the Democratic and Republican Party nominations for elected offices around the state.

After key politicians like Texas House Speaker Joe Straus and Congressman Lamar Smith announced intentions to retire or not run for re-election, some San Antonio area races saw a contentious field of opponents on both sides of the aisle for representation in the courts, Texas legislature and U.S. Congress.

Locally, the battle for District Attorney and newcomer bids for the County Commissioner Precinct 2 seat challenged Bexar County incumbents Nico LaHood and Paul Elizondo, respectively.

Which political races came out as expected and which election results are surprising? What happens now?
